Reforestation and Resilience in Burkina Faso: A Sustainable and Participatory Project

Fight against desertification and strengthen local communities

In Burkina Faso, particularly in the central region, massive deforestation, extreme drought, and soil erosion are accelerating desertification, endangering biodiversity and the livelihoods of populations. Faced with these challenges, Treecolor Alliance and its local partner are launching a major participatory reforestation project involving more than 100 villages.

A sustainable model adapted to local realities

This project is based on an innovative economic and social approach: each village creates and maintains a forest of about 2 hectares with local species adapted to the climate and the needs of the inhabitants. The land is naturally fertilized using organic matter from livestock (the Zaï technique), and agroforestry gardens are developed to generate sustainable income.

Women's empowerment, key to success

Women, essential actors in food security, play a central role through a system of solidarity groups. They participate in planting, forest maintenance, and resource transformation, thus ensuring the long-term impact of the project.
